How we research content
ShelterVolt content is based on a combination of firsthand experience with home backup power systems, analysis of manufacturer specifications and installation documentation, publicly available data from utilities and government programs, and reporting from authoritative sources in the electrical and energy industries.
We cross-reference cost data against multiple installer quotes and publicly reported prices. We document our methodology in the relevant guides so you can evaluate whether our assumptions apply to your situation.
Independence from advertisers and manufacturers
We don't accept payment from manufacturers for editorial coverage. Products are evaluated on their published specifications, independent test data, and reported real-world performance — not on the size of a marketing budget.
If we have an affiliate relationship with a company whose products we cover, that relationship is disclosed per our affiliate disclosure. Affiliate status does not influence editorial coverage.
Corrections and updates
Equipment specs change. Incentive programs expire. Installer pricing shifts. We review and update our guides when we become aware of material changes. Substantive corrections are noted within the affected article.
If you find an error — a wrong spec, an outdated rebate figure, a calculation mistake — please contact us. We will verify and correct promptly.
